Intern / Junior Architect
Fryett Turner Architects Inc. is looking for an energetic and flexible Architect or Intern Architect to join our office. We are looking for someone who can grow with our company over the long term, and in return we will provide a friendly, busy workplace with a broad range of project types and sizes. We will assist with completion of the RAIC / OAA Internship experience records, offer a competitive salary with Group Benefits, flexible working hours and good prospects for advancement in the company.
Fryett Turner Architects is a long-established company under new ownership, and we work on a huge variety of projects from renovations of small historic buildings up to $25m Condominiums. Around half our work is midrise residential, and we cover an area from Woodstock to Mississauga, Owen Sound to St Catherines. We have a team of two Architects, two Project Managers, six Technologists and an Office Manager.
We are active participants in the education of current and future Architecture students, and we regularly host Co-op students at both University and High School level. For Intern Architect candidates, we assist with completion experience records and ensure that Interns experience the full range of Architectural practice work.
We are located in the beautiful historic village of Elora, an easy commute from Guelph, Waterloo and Kitchener. Our office is bright, friendly, and fun. We organize various social activities throughout the year.
An Architect or Intern at Fryett Turner will participate in all stages of the design process, for a wide range of different building types. Activities will include: feasibility studies, schematic and detailed design, 3D computer visualizations and renderings, code reviews, SPA and permit applications, reviewing working drawings, project management and assisting with responses to requests for proposals.
You will need an M.Arch Degree or equivalent, and to be registered as an Architect or Intern Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects. Ideally you have 2 years or more post graduate work experience in an Architectural office.
The job also requires the candidate to be proficient at the English language. Confidence in using Revit and the Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
We are looking for someone with an excellent understanding of construction materials and methods, who understands how the Ontario Building Code works.

The Office Routine
- Hours of Work: We log 7.5 working (billable) hours per day, with two 15 minute paid breaks and one 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
- The job will be based at our office in the centre of Elora.
- There is a Probationary period of 3 months for all new employees.
- We have a desk ready for someone to start as soon as possible.
- Starting Vacation allowance is 2 weeks per year.
